The page above is from The National Maritime Museum it shows a half hull plating model for Shamrock III the first British challenger in the Americas cup. This suggests use of the half hull as a tool for designing construction method and detail, plating patterns drawn onto the hull with notation. This seems to be interesting as half hull models seem to have been mainly used as a geometric study and information transfer devices
Does anyone have any further sources of information for this kind of more detailed construction planning with half hulls?
Additonally I assume that simple routines in modern naval CAD packages have replaced this kind of plating study. Is this the case or does a modern naval architect have to write this kind of code themselves?
