From Lisbon very nice and typical ferries go out to the villages in the other river side Tagus. Take a look of these ships. Sometimes a modeller as Mr. Filipe Seguro makes a model of them.

The several ways to cross the Tagus River

Near the Tagus River mouth is located in one river side, the capital of Portugal-Lisbon
The connection between the opposite riversides is made by ferries and two bridges, the oldest  a suspension bridge  was inaugurated on August 6, 1966 and a train platform was added in 1999. It is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA, due to their similarities and same construction company. With a total length of 2,277 m. The upper platform carries six car lanes, the lower platform two train tracks. Until 1974 the bridge was known as Salazar Bridge changing  its name to 25 de April Bridge in honour of the revolution in this data that changed the old regime to the democracy.
